Payroll Supervisor / Senior Payroller

Job description

​Based in Wakefield I am working with a successful business recruiting a Payroll Supervisor to assist in overseeing a small payroll team of c6 staff members, the role is mixture of staff leadership / management whilst still playing a proactive part in day to day payroll processing responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities are to include but not exclusive to:

  • Oversee the day to day running of a small payroll function

  • Implementing and managing monthly payroll for external clients

  • Responsible for managing all deductions and statutory compliance (SSP, SMP, SPP, Tax & NI)

  • Preparation of reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and non-taxable salaries

  • Monitoring, calculating and reporting on weekly holiday entitlements

  • Resolving payroll discrepancies by collecting and analysing data

  • Providing technical payroll information by answering queries from clients

  • Reconciling payroll to operational and accounting systems

  • Dealing with HMRC correspondence enquiries

  • Maintaining external employee records in accordance with company policy and GDPR

  • Responsible for processing starters and leavers

  • Responsible for calculating deductions, contractual changes and bonuses

  • Ensuring that P45s, P11ds and P60s are administered correctly

  • Responsible for managing and accounting for all pension contributions

  • Act as a key contact with the payroll software provider

The ideal individual with have the following skills and experience:

  • Prior experience in a Senior / Supervisor level appointment in Payroll

  • Management, training and leadership of Payroll team previously

  • Understanding of PAYE, NI deductions and salary exchange

  • Strong IT skills with good working knowledge of MS Excel

  • Excellent excel including pivot tables and ‘v’ look-ups

  • Excellent numeracy and analytical skills

  • Responding to benefits queries processed through the payroll (pension, healthcare, childcare vouchers)
