Interim Financial Controller

Job description

A leading services business in York seeks an Interim Financial Controller to support a period of change.

Starting in April 2025, the initial contract will run for around 6 months and may lead to a longer term appointment depending on how things develop.

Key tasks are to support the FD and manage the small finance team plus:

  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including profit and loss accounts, budgets, cash flows, including variance analysis to identify results, trends, and future financial forecasts, then produce suitable commentaries.

  • Reconcile spending against whole company budgets and forecasts, and updating government portals.

  • Interpreting and communicating financial data to non-financial managers. Including liaising with internal executive and heads of departments regarding departmental budgets and external stakeholders/partners on financial capability budgets on a monthly basis.

  • Ensure the business is compliant with all governance requirements. Develop and implement financial policies, procedures and internal controls across the organisation.

  • Supervise, motivate, mentor and lead finance team members with oversight of the day to day accounting entries and maintenance of ledgers.

To be considered, you must be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with a proven record of producing management accountants and leading a small finance team previously.

Advanced Excel and good communication skills are a given along with an enthusiastic approach and a self motivated attitude.
